Advantages of the MTMS Kit vs. old methods
Advantages of the MTMS Kit
Versus
Old Methodology
(purge into puddle, insert probe, stir or 30/30 method)
Safety
MTMS Kit: No hands in or near the purge, however, we recommend you wear gloves and an arm guard while inserting and removal of the purge puck.
Old Method: Normally the Tech purges into a puddle or onto cardboard and then manipulates the purge with gloves then inserts the probe into the purge and stirs. (This presents the opportunity to be burned while manipulating and stirring the purge. Also, the purge normally sticks to the glove and has the potential for burning).
Repeatability—Shot to Shot
MTMS Kit: Shot/Purge to Shot/Purge repeatability - Plus or Minus 1% -(Ex- 500 ° F resin +/- 5-10° range)
Old Method: Normally a single tech’s range will be 20 ° due to varying techniques (Human Error).
Repeatability—Operator to Operator
MTMS Kit: Shot/Purge to Shot/Purge repeatability - Plus or Minus 1% -(Ex- 500 ° F resin +/- 5°-10°range) No human error or variance.
Old Method: Normally multi operators will have a range of 40 ° due to varying techniques and human error.
Fast—Less Downtime
MTMS Kit: Less than a 1-minute cycle interruption and only needs one shot to get an accurate melt temperature.
Old Method: Normally techs take 3 shots to get enough material to get the probe into the purge and manipulate the purge and stir. This will take 5 to 10 minutes. Some molders will do this 3 times and take the average due to the varying results due to human error.
Low Cost Per Purge!
MTMS Kit: Minimal time to purge and lower material usage due to only one shot being required to get a melt temperature. (Ex: 4 oz. shot size at $2.00 per lb. and an hourly press rate with tech @ $45/hr).
Material –1/4 lb X $2.00/lb= $0.50
Labor/cycle interruption—1/60 (1 minute) X $45 /hr= $0.75
Cost of Insulator Cup= $0.50
Total per Melt Temp/ Purge $1.75
Old Method: Normally the cycle interrupt time is 5 to 10 minutes and you need 3 shots of material per one measured melt temp. 3 shots to have enough material to measure and 1 to 2 shots to flush out the barrel because it is set down for 10 minutes. (Ex. 4 oz. shot size at $2.00 per LB and an hourly press rate with tech @ $45 per Hour.)
Material--1/4 lb X $2.00/lb X 5 shots= $2.50
Labor/Cycle interruption—10/60 (10 Minutes) X $45/hr= $7.50
Total per Melt Temp / Purge $10.00
Note –If your Quality Systems require you to take 3 purge temps and then average them the cost of one “Melt Temperature” would cost $30.00- verses $1.75 for the MTMS—
Note –The MTMS passes Gage R&R tests!
Smaller Shot Sizes
MTMS Kit: Can obtain a melt temperature on shot sizes down to 1 oz (with one shot).
Old Method: Normally you need 3 to 4 ounces to measure via the old methodology or you need to take 3 to 4 shots to get enough material to manipulate around the probe. (When you take 3 or 4 shots in a row RPM, backpressure and residence time are not as much a factor in maintaining the melt temp)
Durability
MTMS Kit: MTMS custom probe diameter is .040 inch to .080 inch. If removed timely, the probe will last hundreds of shots.
Old Method: If you use the real thin probe, damage will occur to the probe due to the immersion process. Probe is only .032 inch diameter.
